Ironhack UX/UI Challenge 1: Design Thinking
Hello! My name is Margarida and this is my first post on Medium and coincidentally my first UX/UI challenge from Iron Hack’s prework.
The main goal of this work is to try to streamline a way for users to be able to pay for their trips through the citymapper app through design thinking. As if it were all in one.
To start with, I did a brief research about the app. Citymapper is a very useful app in several aspects. For starts, it contains maps of almost every city in the world, giving the user the convenience of being able to travel in an unknown territory, both by public and private transport. It allows you to see how to get from point X to point Y, which transport you can use depending on what is available during this route, how long each of the suggested routes takes and also the approximate cost of that specific trip (only available for private transport).
Interesting fact: They have a Citymapper pass option that you can purchase and use it on any transport because they have agreements with several companies. It’s super flexible and user-friendly. It’s a very cool feature for the app’s users, but unfortunately it’s only available in London.
After reflecting on this subject, I created a list of questions to ask some random people, starting with realizing who they are, if they use transport regularly, how they plan their routes and if they use any app for this purpose.
Unfortunately, none of the people I interviewed were familiar with the citymapper app. After I make a brief explanation and in order to conduct the interview in the best way to understand the user’s needs, I came to a conclusion. In fact, I was surprised by the information I got from each one of them, because it’s fascinating how we all think differently and manage to be all different from each other. There were numerous things to take from these interviews, but I focused only on the main point of this challenge, which was trying to understand if users would like to have a form of payment directly in the app, how could I introduce it in the interface and what would be its behavior from the first click to the final step. Here are some sketches I made for these purpose:
Well it’s a bit confunsing 😜 I’m not that good at drawing. But I think it’s possible to understand how the journey inside the app would be made in order to achieve our initial goal.
I hope you enjoyed and all feedback is welcome 🤘🏼
Until next time!
